M-1 Fixed Bale Helmet Grouping
Here we have a very special M-1 fixed bale helmet named to Lt Luther Tate Watkins who was a member of 1056th Port Construction Battalion. The helmet has Lt bar and ETO bar painted on the shell and his name stencilled on the liner. His name is painted in the shell and written on the chinstraps.
The condition of the helmet has a real look of been there done that and is very much the helmet that he used during WW2.
The crown of the helmet is dented which the story that came from the family is that he used to tell the tale that bashing tent pegs in the ground caused the dent.
This group also comes with some named pay related paperwork and 4 photos. One of which shows “Tate” holding the helmet in the picture.
This is the first time this helmet has been on the open market since being sourced from the family.
More pictures are available on request.
